About Us

7 Air Assault Battalion Royal Electrical Mechanical Engineers was formed in 1994 from 71,72 and 73 Aircraft Workshops and is based at Wattisham Airfield, Suffolk.
It is the second line depth repair facility for the Apache, and also provides troops to augment first line workshops when they deploy, undertaking maintenance duties on aircraft, such as Apache, and vehicles in use by 16 Air Assault.
When 16 Air Assault Brigade was formed in 1999, 8 Field Workshop, based at Colchester became part of 7 Bn, and the unit was renamed 7 Air Assault Battalion REME.

7 Battalion began their field gun journey in 2002, and have been crowned victorious twice. Firstly in 2005, and most recently in 2014. This year they hope to hold onto the trophy and once again beat the Royal Navy at their own game!

Not only did the 7Bn Crew win the prestigious Brickwoods Winners Trophy in 2014 they also took home:
The Powersport Cup - Best Aggregate
The Powerful Cup - Fastest Run
and
The Defence Trophy
